Underwater Director of Photography
Growing up along the Atlantic Coast, Tom developed and cultivated a life-long passion and stewardship for the marine environment. After a career in the dive industry on the East Coast, Tom expanded his interest in photography by transitioning into underwater cinematography with a degree in film from Full Sail University in Florida.
Initially based in Los Angeles, he worked on award-winning feature films, TV shows, commercials, and music videos while pursuing his passion of capturing wildlife on film for documentaries and nature shows. Between film assignments, Tom began focusing on marine conservation by providing underwater photography support to local nonprofit organizations.
Since moving to the Big Island of Hawai’i, Tom has specialized in virtual reality image capture either on breath-hold or on SCUBA dives. He now splits his time between Hawai’i and California, developing virtual reality projects.

Underwater Photographer and Cinematographer
Deron Verbeck is a champion breath hold free diver and award winning published photographer. His specialty is underwater photography shot on a single breath of air and using only ambient light.
His love of the ocean brought Deron from his native Southern California to the deep, rich waters off the Big Island of Hawai’i in 1992 where he became a world-class free diver. He holds several national and continental records, with breath-hold dives to over 275 feet and static breath holds of 8 minutes.
Deron uses his freediving skills to take rare photographs of marine animals and their behavior by becoming a natural part of their environment. He uses the same skills to capture striking images in virtual reality, bringing the ocean and its importance for our own ecosystem closer to those who are willing to take a moment and see it through his eyes.
